A Mexican kitchen & cocktail lounge on Town Square

Every town in Mexico has a plaza, the place you start the day with coffee and end it with a drink. Ours is on Town Square, and the tables are set from breakfast until last call.

La Plaza is a sit-down Mexican kitchen and cocktail lounge. Come for chilaquiles at ten, rib eye tacos at one and a Midnight Margarita at nine. Everything is made here: tortillas pressed by hand, salsas from scratch, meats marinated and slow-roasted the long way.

01 · Our Story

Two cooks. Thirty years. One plaza.

Isaac and Carmen have spent more than three decades in Mexican kitchens. That's long enough to learn the patience of a slow-roasted pibil, the balance of a good salsa and the rhythm of a full dining room on a Saturday night.

La Plaza is the restaurant they always meant to open: the dishes they've perfected over a career, cooked from scratch and served in a room made for staying a while.

“High-quality ingredients and traditional flavors, with a modern touch.”

Mañana

02 · Mañana · Breakfast, all day

Breakfast in Wheaton, the Mexican way.

Our kitchen opens at ten and breakfast never leaves the menu. Crisp chilaquiles tossed in salsa and finished with crema, queso fresco and eggs your way. Or order the Desayuno La Plaza, the house plate our regulars ask for by name.

Served daily from 10 AM until close

Chilaquiles

Tortilla chips simmered in salsa verde or roja, finished with crema, queso fresco and onion. Add eggs or steak.

Desayuno La Plaza

Our namesake breakfast: eggs your way, frijoles, warm tortillas and the kitchen's morning favorites, plated generously.

Cocina

03 · La Cocina

A map of Mexico, by the plate.

Mexican food isn't one cuisine. It's dozens of regional traditions. Our menu travels, and we name the places we're cooking from.

  1. Yucatán · 20.97° N · Mérida

    Cochinita Pibil

Pork marinated in achiote and sour orange, slow-roasted until it falls apart, then finished with habanero salsa and pickled red onion. The Maya-rooted classic of the Yucatán peninsula.

  2. Chile-marinated al pastor pork with pineapple, the Mexico City classic

    Ciudad de México · 19.43° N

    Al Pastor

Born in the capital when Lebanese shawarma met Mexican chiles: pork marinated in chiles and spices, finished with pineapple and our guacamole salsa.

  3. A crispy Baja fish taco with chipotle crema on a hand-pressed corn tortilla

    Baja & the Pacific · 31.87° N · Ensenada

    Ceviche & Baja Fish

The bright, salt-air side of the menu: citrus-cured seafood, and crisp-fried fish tacos with cabbage and chipotle crema.

And the central-Mexico comforts every family table knows: sopes, enchiladas, tortas.
